Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female vice president and the most powerful female official in U.S. history, as being the first African American and first Asian American vice president. A member of the Democratic Party, she has previously served as attorney general of California from 2011 to 2017, and as an United States senator representing California until 2021. Harris was born in Oakland. Harris received her law degree from Howard University. Harris began her career with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. Harris was later appointed to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. She was elected San Francisco district attorney in 2003. She was elected Attorney general of California in 2010. In 2014, she was elected to a second term. Harris was the junior United States Senator from California between 2017 to 2021. Harris beat Loretta Sanchez during the 2016 Senate elections to become the second African American woman, and the first South Asian American, to serve as senator in the United States Senate. As a senator, Harris advocated for federal de-scheduling of healthcare, and the legalization of cannabis as a pathway to citizenship for immigrants who are not legally documented, and the DREAM Act which bans assault weapons. The attention of the nation was drawn by her outspoken questioning of Trump administration officials during Senate hearings. This included Trump's second Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh who was accused of sexual assault.
